1955 Babs Gonzales, be-boppin’ poet present at the dawn of rock’n’roll

On 14 January 1955, DJ Alan Freed staged the first ‘Rock and Roll Ball’ at St. Nicholas Arena in New York City.
The line-up for the groundbreaking two-night stand was as follows:
Big Joe Turner ‘shake, rattle and roll’
Fats Domino ‘ain’t that a shame’
Big Joe Turner ‘honey hush’
Big Joe Turner ‘flip, flop and fly’
Red Prysock ‘hand clappin”
Babs Gonzales ‘Manhattan fable’ 1954-Nov
Big Al Sears ‘Tweedlee Dee’
Ella Johnson ‘upside your head’
Buddy Johnson ‘crazy ’bout a saxophone’
Dakota Staton ‘what do you know about love?’
The Clovers ‘you’re cash ain’t nothin’ but trash’
The Moonglows ‘sincerely’
The Harptones ‘since I fell for you’
The Rivileers ‘life is but a dream’ 
The Drifters ‘what’cha gonna do?’
Babs Gonzales ‘all about this rock’n’roll‘
Gonzales sang what became known as ‘vocalese’.
