I met Cees in Texas many years ago when I sold him a few 45s (probably for much less than current value – Daryll Britt – Lover Lover ) but he sent me a large package full of LPs that included all but a 2 or 3 of those in your stack you showed. It was so worthwhile, however, to talk to someone who actually loved the same music I did.”
Did know Marcel [Merssman] when I worked at Bim Bam Records in the UK, But I never met him & remember he had top records in perfect condition, & we used to stock many of the Teen Reissue type albums he did
[translated] With thousands of small and very small companies, the record industry in the USA had a completely different structure to that in Europe. Rockabilly and rock ‘n’ roll singles appeared on such labels, which the Dutchman Cees Klop re-released on Collector Records, bringing them closer to the local collector scene / Collector was followed in Western Europe by a whole series of labels with unofficial reissues such as Redita, Eagle or Bison Bop – although the producers of these series must be credited with the fact that the rights to the recordings could often no longer be clarified. / Towards the end of the 1970s and in the first half of the 1980s, a wealth of high-quality reissues of rockabilly, rock ‘n’ roll, blues and rhythm & blues appeared in the UK and the USA. All of them in ‘straight mono’, whereas before 1975, reissues always had to struggle with recordings that had been electronically stereophonised afterwards.
Back then, I went through a unique learning process by reading the liner notes of coriphiles such as Stuart Coleman, Adam Komorowski and Bill Millar. I dug deeper and deeper into the beginnings of rock music, which I hadn’t experienced myself. / Ray Topping was an international authority on popular American music from 1945 to 1965. The Brit compiled many discographies for music magazines and wrote in-depth accompanying texts for countless reissues, especially of black performers. He unearthed thousands of rare, unreleased master recordings for the specialised London label Ace Records.
Antwerp – The speciality shop in Kruibeke, near Antwerp, was a real treasure trove for rock ‘n’ roll collectors. Owner Marcel Meersman procured original American LPs for his customers, mainly at the major record auctions in Austin, Texas
