Thrashabilly

I’ve often thought of some rock’n’roll that’s appeared since the early 1980s as ‘thrashabilly’ (especially the psychobilly version). It seems like a punk approach to rock’n’roll with melody subjected to an incessant rhythm beat. Arguably it is an approach that suits less talented musicians but there’s no denying either that some talented musicians may prefer performing in such a style ! This bare-bones approach may be simpler than classic rock’n’roll but there’s no denying that a fun night can be had with its more accomplished practitioners.

A good example of thrashabilly is this version of ‘flying saucers rock’n’roll’ by Hungarian group Rockin’ Rock Cats (just compare it to the original by Billy Riley and the Little Green Men to see what defines thrashabilly).
