1959.May.02  ‘turn me loose’ on ‘Oh Boy!’ (ATV)

1959.May ‘Serious Charge’ ‘no turning back’ & ‘living doll’ (upbeat)

David Rayner The film ‘Serious Charge’ was passed with an ‘X’ certificate by the British Board of Film Censors on March 10th, 1959. Add say a month or two of post production before that and say, an eight weeks shooting schedule, that may mean the film was actually before the cameras in November / December, 1958. So I just wonder if anyone knows when Cliff actually recorded the up tempo version of ‘Living Doll’ for it. The film was released in May, 1959, along with the EP.

“I got my first movie within three months of the start of my career. They wanted an up-and-coming rock ‘n’ roll singer so I got the job because Move It was a hit and Living Doll was on the soundtrack, although not the version that became a hit single.”
Cliff Richard (circa 1995 [published 2008 May] – The Bachelor Boy)

“Move It! [sic] entered the Hit Parade in September, 1958, one month before Cliff’s 18th birthday, while the then-unknown singer was playing a season at Butlin’s Holiday Camp, Clacton.  Sparked off by Saturday Club airing, the record was given further impetus by Cliff’s debut on Oh Boy!— which developed into a residency on the series– and rose to No. 2 in the Charts.”
Derek Johnson (July 1963 – liner notes for Cliff’s Hit Album)

John Mundy says Cliff signed to Eros Films’ 1058 production ‘Serious Charge’

ALL THIS SUGGESTS ‘Serious Charge’ was filmed about November-December 1958.

Andrew Ray (as Larry Thompson, film’s nemesis and wearing bolo tie) & Jess Conrad (uncredited dancing ted)

13.Jun.1965 medley ‘young ones – living doll – lucky lips – bachelor boy’ on ‘The New London Palladium Show’. Note the quiff is gone and it would never come back …

1966 test shoot of ‘shooting star’ for the puppet sci-fi series ‘Thunderbirds are Go’

1966 ‘shooting star’ by ‘Thunderbirds are Go’ puppets of Cliff and the Shadows!

We can’t leave Cliff Richard without his performance of ‘living doll’ alongside 1980s hit alternative comics The Young Ones.

Apr.1986 ‘living doll’ (with The Young Ones) at the first Live Aid concert held at the Shaftesbury Avenue Theatre, London.
